Custom domains

Send and receive on your own domain.

Every account can use @mailly.site addresses. To send and receive on your own domain, add it in Domains and verify ownership, then configure sending and receiving with the DNS records shown there.

Sending DNS and inbound MX are separate

Sending requires SES DNS verification; receiving requires an MX record pointing to Mailly. Do not overwrite the root MX of a domain that already has a mailbox service. Use a dedicated subdomain when needed, and always follow the actual records shown in Domains.

Steps

  1. Submit the domain for ownership review.
  2. After approval, verify inbound by pointing the MX record at Mailly, if you want to receive mail on it.
  3. Set up outbound by adding the sending DNS records, if you want to send from it.
  4. Create inbox addresses on the domain once its MX is verified.

The same steps are available through the API (Domains), the CLI (mailly domains) and MCP (mailly_add_domain, mailly_setup_domain).
